Water is vital for human health. Although there is enough for everyone, poor economics and infrastructure means millions die from inadequate water supply, sanitation, and hygiene. In 2019, the same issues topped consumer concerns. Climate change was the biggest concern then and has only grown more important, as has water scarcity, likely linked to recent climate issues. Plastic waste ranked third in 2019 and remains a top concern today. The grocery industry clearly faces significant challenges, but these also present substantial opportunities for manufacturers, retailers, and brands that successfully navigate them.
